The Dance-Worthy Playlist for Creativity: Colorful Beats that Inspire My Work

Posted on

When I open my eyes, the sun peeks through the far window and slowly spreads up the wall. Moose wiggles out from under the sheets and plops down with a contented sigh. I hear the faintest sound of squirrels rustling on my roof -- clutching nuts in their tiny paws, preparing for winter.

Yeah right.

When my phone alarm goes off at 4:45 a.m. (the third level of hell), I quickly slide snooze no less than five times.  And you better believe Moose doesn’t bother waking up.  He is snuggly burrowed under the sheets with nary a twitch as the alarm blares.

Dance-Worthy Playlist for Creativity: Colorful Beats That Inspire My Work

Maybe in my dream life,
mornings happen with grace and I'd casually sip my espresso while flipping on the TV to see what Savannah and Hoda are wearing.

But in reality, Kate and Moose (that’s us for those who don’t pay attention) is still a side hustle. So, I greet the wee hours of the morning with a half-assed promise to stop staying up late to watching Insta stories.

After swiping the snooze button as many times as I can, I’m usually running out the door with just enough time to grab a pair of studs and my shoes.  So how do I get my day started?

Crank Up the Music

From Wake Me Up by Avicii and On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons, I start my day with a solid dose of self-affirming positivity.  Nothing beats Monday morning blues like Ready or Not by Bridgit Mendler or Run The World (Girls) by Beyoncé.

I'm a fan of changing things up so shuffle that playlist!  Feeling some kind of way?

Stressed out with #allthingthings? Work B**ch by the one and only Britney Spears.

Crap day at the office? Shake It Off by Taylor Swift.

Got a pimple AND a bad hair day? Sexy And I Know It by LMFAO.

But I'm not the only one listening to tunes so I threw in a couple of songs for Moose. Best song for mindless chewing of his bully stick? Happy by Pharrell Williams.  What he likes to hear when he returns from a long walk? Beautiful Day by U2.  What Moose would play for me when I'm ignoring his requests for a walk? What Are You Waiting For by Gwen Stefani.

Let's Dance

Use it, don’t abuse it, and fuse it to your day? I don’t know...I’m not a poet, and I know it.  😜

So, you can see, there’s a little something for every mood. But, regardless, every song is upbeat, confident, and colorful --- just like me (not-so-humble brag).

Mornings can be rough - early alarms notwithstanding.  But starting your day with a strong dose of positivity and creative beats can make a difference.  And if all else fails, another cup of coffee always helps.
