How a Crazy Dog Mom Enjoys a Lazy Sunday

Posted on

Admit it, you've ruined a weekend or two by stressing out about Monday. The mere thought of Monday can put a damper on your Sunday chill plans, but NO MORE. Reclaim your weekend!

Downtime, rest and recuperation, self-care, whatever you choose to call it, don't forget about YOU. Grab your calendar and schedule yourself a lazy Sunday.

My Sundays are super boring, but I've designed them that way. Lazy Sundays are a thing and if you identify as a crazy dog Mom, then read on for how Moose and I spend our favorite day of the week. Because no work = more walkies and doggo snuggles.

How a Crazy Dog Mom Spends Her Sunday featuring shop dog Moose

Coffee, Belly Rubs, and Missed TV

Moose is almost 12, so he chills right beside me getting belly rubs while I catch up on missed episodes of SEAL Team and Grey's Anatomy.

But we still love grabbing coffee together and socializing at the dog park.

The most important thing is we spend as much time together as possible since, during the week, I’m stuck behind a desk. I guess my boss hasn’t gotten the memo that dogs reduce stress and anxiety. What can you do?

In fact, I get so excited about spending Sundays with my pup, Moose, that I bought us matching sweatshirts. And, trust, we wear them every Sunday.

Our lazy Sundays are like super, not interesting in reality. Moose is almost 12, so we do a lot of TV watching and belly rubs. But we still love grabbing coffee together and socializing at the dog park.

Sleep In, Breakfast in Bed, and Leisurely Strolls

My internal alarm clock doesn’t have an off button for Sunday’s, so I’m up early. Even if I try to sleep in, Moose will not stand for it. But, that’s okay, because long walks, relaxation, and naps are the only thing on our schedule for the day!

But first, coffee. Iced latte in hand, Moose and I head out for a pre-breakfast leisurely stroll. Being almost 12, Moose isn’t as spry as he used to be, so we saunter around the block making sure he's sniffed every blade of grass and peed on every fire hydrant we come across.

Next up, breakfast. Gotta keep it light because I live for farmer's market donuts. We eat a light breakfast and I change for the farmer's market and grocery shopping. After some post-breakfast snuggles on the couch and Moose firmly out like a light, I'm out the door.

I Run Errands & Clean Up (while Moose naps)

Once catching up is done, it’s time for another potty break and lunch! Moose dances around my legs to snag anything I drop, which I'll admittedly do a often when he's been a good boy. Since this is exhausting work, he takes another nap while I clean up around the house and head to the grocery store. I love prepping my lunch the night before, so I can sleep a little later the next day.

We Play with His New Toys from BarkBox

Moose has a BarkBox subscription, so one Sunday a month, Moose gets to open his monthly box. November's Barkbox was Grinch themed and he was very spoiled because his mommy upgraded his box.

Any toys that are too big or too hard get donated to our local shelter. Same goes for too many treats and hard treats. We gotta watch his waistline as he gets older. He may be picky, people, but he’s also very philanthropic!

We play around for a bit before taking another potty break -- you probably see a theme here. What can I say? He’s my little old man!

We Watch Our Favorite Shows & Snuggle

No lazy Sunday is complete without more snuggling and more TV! Amiright?

But, before snuggle time, I pick out my outfit and accessories for the next day -- usually a shell in a colorful shade of orange or fuschia (unless I have a meeting, and then it’s darker purples and blues).  And, of course, a pair of stud earrings to match.

Since Moose is also a minimalist, he’ll wear his curly white fur the rest of the week. He has it so easy.

In true Sunday style, this post is short and sweet. If someone could let me know why weekends aren’t longer, that’d be greeeaaattt. In the meantime, what’s your favorite Sunday activity with your pup? Share with me in the comments.
