Have you heard of the Rising Tide Society? Their mission is to empower the creative economy to rise together, doing what they love. Through local chapters of Tuesday's Together, creative entrepreneurs gather to discuss a topic and mingle. Facebook, in all of its creepy mind knowing ways, suggested a chapter local to me and that's how I {virtually} met Laura.

Laura posted about taking photographs of local business owners in their element and I {virtually} raised my hand ✋. Mind you, I truly TRULY do not like having my photograph taken. I've always been a behind the scenes gal, but I knew that I really connected with local businesses that showed themselves so I knew it was time for me to do the same.

That amazing photograph to the right of my smiling face? That's Laura. How Kate & Moose is made? She took photos of that, too!

I've hired the talented and brilliant Laura of Laura Quintero Photography for the last two years to take photographs of Kate & Moose jewelry on real women. Every photo you'll find of a lady in Kate & Moose jewelry has been shot by Laura.

But Laura's true talent lies in fine art boudoir photography. She specializes in making women comfortable in their own skin and owning their home that is their body. Watching her work, in how she speaks to women she's photographing, with the ladies who model for Kate & Moose, I know she has the magic touch in making women feel special.

And that my friends, is as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story. Meet Laura, the fine art boudoir photographer.

Q's About Your Work:

How did you get your start in photography?  What made you pick up the camera?

Growing up I always had a camera in hand, and over the years I discovered my love for photographing people and telling their story.  As a pretty shy child, I didn't really photograph people too much until college, when I broke out of my shell and found out that photographing people and showing them how beautiful they are is my favorite thing!

What drew you to photography?

I love documenting moments, telling stories, and evoking feelings.  I love playing with light, color, and seeing things from a new/unique perspective.  Photography gives me a chance to express myself and show others how I see the world.

What words would you use to describe your photography style?

Bold, bright, and playful.

What inspires your work?

I'm inspired by light, by femininity, by textures and colors, and mostly by joy.  Happy people and safe spaces help me create my best work.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for inspiration, where would you go and why?

I would love to travel all over, to see how light is different for everyone and explore the colors and textures throughout the world.  I want to experience more of Venezuela (where both of my parents are from) and spend some time in Asia and Africa.

What small businesses inspire you and why?

I'm inspired by small businesses that give back.  I love seeing companies like Cora Women, Kiva, and Times Up make an impact on the lives of women around the world.

Q's About Laura:

What color describes you as a person and why?

I'd say a bit of yellow and mauve.  Yellow depicts optimism, cheerfulness, playfulness, and joy, which I definitely what I strive to bring into my life and the life of people I meet.  And mauve because it's beautiful and calming.

What brings you joy?

Candles, crochet blankets, apple cider donuts, sunshine on a chilly day, holding hands, brand new hoodies, taking off my bra/jeans at the end of a long day, spending the day without a bra, well-loved books, high top sneakers, Latin music, Malbec in a stemless glass, freshly brewed coffee.

What’s your favorite quote and who said it?

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."  Maya Angelou

What’s one thing you would eat if you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life?

What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Oat of this Swirled by Ben & Jerry's Delicious Buttery Brown Sugar Ice Cream with Fudge Flakes & Oatmeal Cinnamon Cookie's so good!!)

Do you have a favorite dish to cook? I don't cook very much or very well, so I'll have to go with my favorite thing to eat, which is either sushi or my mom's pasta.

What are you grateful for right now? Everything!  A job, a home, heating, clean running water, my support system, toilet paper, my car, steady reliable income, friendship, shoes, my warm winter coat, healthcare, mobility, my education, fruits and vegetables, safety, vision, love.  I could keep this list going forever, so I'll stop there.  There is so much to be grateful for!

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

I had to crowd-source this answer cause I couldn't think of anything good!  From my boyfriend: "somewhere between sunflower and french fry yellow" (which is perfect because sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers and I LOVE french fries).

What was the last gift you gave someone?

Every Friday, an incredible woman and activist Rachel Cargle encourages her following to participate in Friend Care Friday, where you send $5-10 (via Venmo/CashApp/PayPal) to your friends to pay for their morning coffee ☕️ and to bring some joy into their life!  I participate as often as I can because it's a great way to remind your friends you LOVE and support them, especially if you're not always able to see each other.

What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

The Good Place!  It's my favorite show right now and I can't get enough.  Although, it's more likely that the last thing I watched was the Simpsons since I've been watching that lately while I edit.

A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

"Oh, waddle wonderful day!  Wanna go get some chips and salsa?"
