5 Ways to Refresh Your Look for Last-Minute Plans

Posted on

It’s a universal truth that once a woman is at home, and her bra is off, there’ll be no having of plans.

Occasionally, we get invited to something that’s just as unavoidable as it is last-minute. Like when your BFF has an extra concert ticket to Spice Girls (it’s plausible and 100% a good reason for putting that bra back on). Or your coworker had a horrible date night and wants to meet up for happy hour so she can tell you about it.

And lest we forget when the hot guy you met at the grocery store asks if you want to grab dinner. His chiseled cheekbones and dimples are a small price to pay for his inability to plan anything greater than 30 minutes in advance.

Whether it’s a weeknight or weekend, you might be feeling less than fresh when you get that text. And even though I don’t love rushing out the door, or you know, socializing after 6 pm, I’ve come up with a few ways to pull myself together after a long day of work (or napping with Moose).

Amp up your look for last-minute plans with these simple steps.

5 Ways to Refresh Your Look for Last Minute Plans

Freshen Up

All the makeup and hairspray in the world won’t cover up the lingering scent of office cubicles and commuter trains. So, if I don’t have time for a quick shower, I love using these full body wipes (discovered their awesomeness on a four-day train trip in coach from DC to CA - these are amazing). In 60 seconds, I can feel sparkly and fresh. After that, I use dry shampoo to add some volume and life to my locks.

Don’t Reinvent the Hair Brush

There’s a time and place to try new hairstyles or a smoldering, smokey eye. That’s not today. And that’s not here. You likely have someone waiting on you, so stick to your tried-and-true looks.

If it’s a weekday, I styled my hair that morning, so I’ll brush through it a few times and leave it down. On the weekend? I pull my hair back using a pin or wear a cute floppy hat to disguise the frazzle.

Accentuate Your Best Asset

Remember when we talked about tried-and-true? To piggyback off that, my best tip when you’re short on time is to consider your best asset. Your eyes? Teeth? Complexion?

For me, I always apply mascara because my glasses amplify my eyes. And since I smile a lot, I grab my favorite lipstick too. If you have a great complexion, own it and skip the foundation!

Choose a One Piece Wonder

Closets can be a total time-suck. Keep your outfit quick and easy by choosing a dress or jumpsuit. You can slip them on, and you eliminate the process of finding two matching pieces.

Wear something reliable (notice the theme here), so you don’t catch yourself in the mirror on the way out the door, realize you aren’t in love with the fit or color and end up back at square one.

Elevate the Look with Accessories

Even if you’ve worn that LBD a hundred times, the right accessories can make it look brand-spankin’ new.

I never leave the house with my ears naked, so I keep a classic pair in a jewelry dish near my front door, so I can grab them on my way out.

If your hair is up, choose a pair of dangle earrings to add interest to your neckline. Throw on some bangles, a cute belt, or brightly colored shoes to make your outfit pop. Have fun with it! Plus, colorful jewelry is a great way to distract people from the fact you didn’t have time to shave your legs.

So, what are you waiting for? You’ve got the tips, and now it’s time to start getting ready. When crunched for time, remember:

  1. Freshen up
  2. Don’t reinvent the hairbrush
  3. Accentuate your best
  4. Elevate the rest

Go get ‘em, girl!
